Superpower
Unexpectedly, after my mom died, I could read minds. I spontaneously heard the thoughts and emotions of others revealing their true intentions. I couldn’t rest from the intrusion of voices and feelings overpowering me like a tidal wave. I started avoiding people as if proximity could quiet the storm of words and explosive emotions. But my resistance to this power only increased the turbulence I felt sweeping over me. Soon I understood that the real gift was that there was no more hiding. As each mask dropped, I understood the full weight of what others were experiencing. As they were revealed raw and unarmored, I could be fully open as well. What started as an intrusive curse became a point of deeper connection.
